TCM & Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which consists of acupuncture, herbs and bodywork, has been used effectively for over 4000 years. It is one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine in history.

TCM has its origin in ancient Taoist philosophy which views a person as an energy system in which body and mind are unified, each influencing and balancing the other. Unlike allopathic medicine which attempts to isolate and separate a disease from a person, Chinese Medicine emphasizes a holistic approach that treats the whole person. Many people have found Traditional Chinese methods of healing to be excellent tools for maintaining optimum health and preventing illness. The healing arts of TCM is designed to be integrated into daily life; for the body to heal itself, naturally.

Interest in TCM is rapidly expanding in Canada and around the globe. The World Health Organization has encouraged the spread of TCM to meet the health care needs of the twenty-first century. The trend to integrate TCM and allopathic medicine in many Western countries is growing.

How It Works

Acupuncture is a treatment which consists of the insertion of fine needles to specific acupuncture points found along the meridian system to correct energy (Qi) flow in the body.

Blockages in the meridian(s) are dispersed with stimulation to an acu-point. Acupuncture points or a formula is devised depending on the condition being treated and the desired result. An acupuncturist is trained to look at your described symptoms, facial colour/complexion, tongue and pulse in order to diagnose a picture of Qi imbalances. Treatment helps to relieve pain, promote proper body and organ functioning and activate the body's self healing ability.

TCM & Acupuncture Benefits

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes health in terms of balance and abundance of energy (Qi). Qi is the vital energy of life. Qi warms the body, builds the immune system and links all functions of the body. It flows throughout the body in channels call meridians. The meridian system is connected to all our organs and their functions. When there is smooth flowing Qi in the meridians, the organs; liver, heart, kidneys, spleen, stomach, small and large intestines, bladder, lung and their functions are balanced and working in proper order. Proper functioning of our organs equates to good health, a less stressed, illness-free physical body. The state of our physical, mental and emotional health affects the outcome of our overall well-being. When our health is compromised, are Qi is not flowing smoothly, the organ system is affected and symptoms manifest in a myriad of chronic or acute health conditions.
